****READ ME FIRST!!!!****

very sorry the images arnt working, doesnt seem to be a great deal i can do about it at the moment, its not to hard to follow though, you should be ok :)

Create a new document, 500 x 500 and call it something along the lines of “Grunge Sig Main”.

Hit D to reset colours.

Go to Filter > Render > Clouds, then Filter > Render > Difference Clouds.

Often enough you’ll find this doesn’t look great, hit Control + F to repeat the last step, in this case the difference clouds, until you get something that looks half decent.
Difference Clouds

Next go to Filter > Sketch > Graphic Pen. Set the settings to:

Stroke length – 15

Dark/light balance – 64

Stroke direction – Horizontal.

Filter > Blur > Motion Blur with these settings:

Angle – 0

Distance – 45
Graphic Pen

Next right click the layer and duplicate, leave its name as the default.

On the duplicated layer (layer 1 copy) go to Edit > Transform > Rotate 90 CW.

Now, down where you select the layers, make sure you are still on the duplicated layer and set its Layer Properties bit to Overlay. See picture for more info :)
Layer Properties Bit

Hit Control + E to merge the two layers then rename them to something like “Graphic Pens”.

Next we want to duplicate “Graphic Pens” and rename the layer to “Photocopy”.

Make sure you have “Photocopy” selected and go to filter > Sketch > Photocopy. Leave them as the defaults, but just in case they have changed for some reason, set them as:

Detail – 7

Darkness – 8

Make sure you are still on “Photocopy” and set its Layer Properties bit to Difference.
Photocopy

Now duplicate “Photocopy” and rename it to “Chrome”. Simply go to Filter > Sketch > Chrome and apply these settings:

Detail – 4

Smoothness – 7
Chrome

Nearly there! Don’t worry if your image isn’t looking great, it shouldn’t be :) .

Ok, Make sure “Chrome” is set to Difference. It should do it automatically when you duplicated the layer, but it doesn’t hurt to check.

Duplicate Chrome and call it “Blur”. On “Blur” go to Filter > Blur > Radial Blur and apply these settings:

Amount – 100

Method – Zoom

Quality – Best

Finally set the Layer Properties thing to Colour Dodge.

Ok, now to set up the final image!

This bit really all depends on what you want to use the image for. Ill describe how to make it into a signature although it could just as easily be used for a banner.

Any way, select the Marquee tool or hit M. At the top set it to Fixed Size and set the size to 500 Wide x 100 high.
Marquee

Make sure you’re on the top layer and select an area that looks good. Go to Edit > Copy Merged or hit Control + Shift + C.

Make a new document or hit Control + N

In the new document hit Control + V.

Ok, last thing is to make some text and we are done!

Pick a standard looking font, I used Ariel Black, Size 24, Colour – black, I would also suggest using caps.

Type in what ever you want to say. Down in the layers box right click the text layer and chose Blending Options.

Add a Drop Shadow and a Bevel and Emboss.

Leave the shadow as its default but change the Bevel to these settings:

 Bevel

Finally on the text layer, down in the Layer Box there is a little slider for Fill, set it to 0. Move your text to somewhere it looks good and you’re done!

Here’s how mine came out:
Finished

This technique is extremely random, sometimes it comes out with great results, other times it comes out with…not so great results, like mine above for example :P

Any way, I hoped you enjoyed this tutorial, if you did then check out ww.phrost.co.uk for more.
